2. Shows a lot of old films in class (VHS tape old)
3. Very interesting subject once you get past the initial introduction. You get to learn about serial killers, deviant behavior, government corruption, etc. aka all the cool stuff.
4. 3 3-page papers where you have a variety of topics to choose from. All the papers can be knocked out in a night.
Cons: 1. She can be a little crazy, but it makes for an interesting class. Not a con for me, but I figure it may be for some people
2. Hard to actually get into the class. Stalk drop add when it opens.
Very fun class to take. I legitimately took this class for fun, and I was not disappointed. Just don't be the douchebag who only shows up to turn in papers; it's a great class, go to it!
Cons: She takes attendance 10 times throughout the semester randomly to calculate your attendance grade. So you have to go to class everyday because you never know when attendance will be taken.
No test or final exam
Three EASY papers (3.5 pages each) which takes about 2-3 hours and I am a slow writer.
Cons: Nothing.
Her class is interesting because she tells you stories. Some of the stories are out there. Like what many people said, you have to show up to class for attendance quizzes. IMO I would rather show up to class everyday and get easy attendance points (if you show up you get a 100 on the quiz no matter how many questions you miss) rather than studying for a quiz or test in the other sections. Also 50% of your grade is on attendance which makes the class even easier. The other 50% is comprised of three papers graded very easily. There is no homework or reading assignments in the class. You don't even need the textbook. I would highly recommend her. Also, you can bring your computer to class if you want (but her class is interesting so you will probably pay attention to her more than using your computer)
Cons: She can't teach every subject at Virginia Tech.
One of the most amazing professors you will ever have, period.
Cons: Sometimes her stories are very bizarre and off topic
Deanna is the easiest intro soc teacher you can get. She's very easy and nice, and all you have to do for the class is write three papers which take no time at all, are graded very easily and you could probably turn it in late and still get an A. It took her forever to get the grades back because she was very sick the semester I had her, but class was cancelled a lot. Not tests, just the three papers. But she does take 10 random attendance quizzes so you have to go to class. Her stories are crazy though and class never went past an hour so it's not bad at all to sit and surf the web. Didn't really learn much, but she was a nice lady and it was an easy A, much easier than the other intro soc courses offered.
Great person.
A historic tech professor.
Cons: A little dry.
If you are going to take soc then have her be your teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and if you put forth the effort then you will easily get an A.
She makes the class interesting with interesting stories from her past, or ones she has heard
She goes above and beyond the course material
Cons: Class frequently goes off topic - not really a con for me but it may be for some
Dr. Deanna is one of the best professors at VT. She cares about you and does everything she can to make class quirky and interesting. If you want a different experience, take her class.
Cons: The class is kind of boring, but a very easy A.
Great professor, she really cares about her students!
Cons: Kinda crazy and eccentric. Has some annoying habits when talking.
Awesome professor. Relates a lot of the material back to her life experiences, which are...interesting, to say the least.
Cons: Deanna told us on the first day that she did drugs in the 60s and it affected her brain. She's pretty crazy and her stories are out there, but class is worth going to just to hear them. She did say that from now on, she won't allow computers so the class might get boring if you can't spend all your time on the internet.
Fun Stories
Will Go Above and Beyond
Cons: None
She really cares about her students and even arranged for me to meet and get autographs with the men's basketball team for my birthday! Love her!
