Pros: 1. Sweet, awesome little old lady teacher
2. Shows a lot of old films in class (VHS tape old)
3. Very interesting subject once you get past the initial introduction. You get to learn about serial killers, deviant behavior, government corruption, etc. aka all the cool stuff.
4. 3 3-page papers where you have a variety of topics to choose from. All the papers can be knocked out in a night.
Cons: 1. She can be a little crazy, but it makes for an interesting class. Not a con for me, but I figure it may be for some people
2. Hard to actually get into the class. Stalk drop add when it opens.
Very fun class to take. I legitimately took this class for fun, and I was not disappointed. Just don't be the douchebag who only shows up to turn in papers; it's a great class, go to it!

Pros: She's so funny, sweet, cute, and really cares about her students. She is probably one of my favorite professors I've had at Tech so far. She makes the class enjoyable and laid back. Her class is a guaranteed A if you show up and write the 3 papers. She grades really easily, you could google some basic information to write your paper and still get an A if you're one of those kids who would rather be doing something else than paying attention to her... So really you don't even need to pay attention if you didn't want to but she's pretty interesting and has good stories. Her class is laid back. She lectures but you don't need to take notes if you don't want to, just listen so you have basic knowledge to write your paper. We watch movies, have funny discussions, and she lets the class out early every time. She's great, all in all try to take sociology with her, it's a guaranteed GPA booster. You won't regret it!
Cons: She takes attendance 10 times throughout the semester randomly to calculate your attendance grade. So you have to go to class everyday because you never know when attendance will be taken.

Pros: No homework
No test or final exam
Three EASY papers (3.5 pages each) which takes about 2-3 hours and I am a slow writer.
Cons: Nothing.
Her class is interesting because she tells you stories. Some of the stories are out there. Like what many people said, you have to show up to class for attendance quizzes. IMO I would rather show up to class everyday and get easy attendance points (if you show up you get a 100 on the quiz no matter how many questions you miss) rather than studying for a quiz or test in the other sections. Also 50% of your grade is on attendance which makes the class even easier. The other 50% is comprised of three papers graded very easily. There is no homework or reading assignments in the class. You don't even need the textbook. I would highly recommend her. Also, you can bring your computer to class if you want (but her class is interesting so you will probably pay attention to her more than using your computer)

Pros: She's a wonderful teacher. She's extremely understanding, personable, and fun! You only have 3 papers to right which are all less than 4 pages. She also cancels class a good amount.
Cons: She can't teach every subject at Virginia Tech.
One of the most amazing professors you will ever have, period.

Pros: Very easy, classes were only an hour, cancelled class a lot
Cons: Sometimes her stories are very bizarre and off topic
Deanna is the easiest intro soc teacher you can get. She's very easy and nice, and all you have to do for the class is write three papers which take no time at all, are graded very easily and you could probably turn it in late and still get an A. It took her forever to get the grades back because she was very sick the semester I had her, but class was cancelled a lot. Not tests, just the three papers. But she does take 10 random attendance quizzes so you have to go to class. Her stories are crazy though and class never went past an hour so it's not bad at all to sit and surf the web. Didn't really learn much, but she was a nice lady and it was an easy A, much easier than the other intro soc courses offered.

Pros: Easy class.
Great person.
A historic tech professor.
Cons: A little dry.
If you are going to take soc then have her be your teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and if you put forth the effort then you will easily get an A.

Deanna is amazing. She knows exactly what she's teaching, and she loves teaching it. She really looks out for her students and is always available to talk after class if you have any problems. She's quirky and super cool, never gives out tests (so no final exam) but she does random, super easy in class quizzes to make sure people are actually coming to class and even if you miss a few questions, you get the 100 for participation/showing up. She gives 3-4 essays out throughout the class (substitutes for exams) and they're like middle school essays so don't even sweat it. Overall its a great, fun, easy class and you really do learn a lot from it!

Pros: Awesome teacher, she cares for the students a great deal!
She goes above and beyond the course material
Cons: Class frequently goes off topic - not really a con for me but it may be for some
Dr. Deanna is one of the best professors at VT. She cares about you and does everything she can to make class quirky and interesting. If you want a different experience, take her class.

Pros: Only have to write a few papers (not "real" papers), her "quizzes" weren't actual pop quizzes where you needed to study

Pros: The class is such a breeze, you have four papers that take about an hour to write and then 50% of your grade is online assignments that you get a 100 for as long as you show up. If you need SOC 1004, she is definitely the professor to take.
Cons: The class is kind of boring, but a very easy A.
Great professor, she really cares about her students!

Pros: Only 3 easy papers throughout the entire semester. Easy quizzes, she basically gives you the answers or just gives you a 100 if you turn one in. Makes the subject pretty interesting.
Cons: Kinda crazy and eccentric. Has some annoying habits when talking.
Awesome professor. Relates a lot of the material back to her life experiences, which are...interesting, to say the least.

Pros: The only grades are 4 4-page essays (which she graded really easily - everyone got A's and she just wants you to ramble for the most part about the topic) and in-class assignments that everyone gets 100s on as long as you go to class. Overall, easy A if you go to class and give the essays an hour or two of your time. She's a really sweet old lady and wants her students to learn and succeed in college. She wants her class to be fun and for everyone to get an easy A.
Cons: Deanna told us on the first day that she did drugs in the 60s and it affected her brain. She's pretty crazy and her stories are out there, but class is worth going to just to hear them. She did say that from now on, she won't allow computers so the class might get boring if you can't spend all your time on the internet.

The exams were four take home essays and she gives you the prompt well in advance. She tends to go on tangents but she is an adorable old lady and her lectures are so straight forward and easy to follow.

The class consisted of 10 "in-class assignments" which ended up just being attendance, and 3 papers for a total of 200 points. She is a very easy grader and is a lovable and interesting lady. She asked us what we wanted to learn and showed many (old, like from the 80s old) videos that were pretty informative. Overall a very easy class.

The exams aren't exams they are really papers about 4-5 pages. About imaginative topics. Easier grader. Easier class. Really interesting. She's kinda crazy but in a good way. And very sweet. Occasionally she has quizzes but they are for attendance and not correctness. Make sure you come to class. You won't be bored anyways.
